Tassos Valkanis was from the city of Lerin (Florina).  As far as I know, this is the only recording that the group recorded under that name.  As a caveat, however, it could be that they made other recordings, for they were a famous orchestra.  After Tassos’ demise, his sons formed a group called The Florina Brass Band (included on this site).

The sound this group produced is unique. It is an old style of playing that sounds as if the individual players are not in time with each other. However, old timers from village Chereshnitsa can remember that bands from the 1940s and earlier sounded just like this one.
