- Ioannis Metaxas succeeds to Premiership in Greece under King George II.
- August 1936
- Metaxas suspends parliamentary government and rules as Dictator.
- Spring 1939
- Italy occupies Albania, and Greece conscripts all eligible men, horses, and mules.
- October 1940
- Italy declares war on Greece. The Greek 9th Division, composed primarily of Macedonians, drives back the Italians into Albania.
- April 1941
- Germany attacks Greece from the north and conquers it in one month. Greece remains under German and Italian occupation until October 1944.
- Spring 1942
- The Komitee movement is organized.
- May 1943
- SNOF (SlavianoMakedonski Naroden Osfoboditelen Front) is formed. Gochev becomes the military leader of the Macedonian units (Gocheva Brigada) under Greek Command
- September 1943
- Italy capitulates to the Allies.
- Fall 1943
- The Setoma Komitee kill Alexovski, a SNOF organizer, in Grebointsia.
- Spring 1944
- The Chereshnitsa Komitee are attacked and the village is captured by the Partisans.
- August 1944
- Gochev and his SNOF brigades break away from ELAS and cross into Yugoslav Macedonia.
- Spring 1946
- The Greek Bourontades and Greek Army gather about 44 Chereshnitcheni in front of the Church and jailed them in Kostour as Partisans.
- Fall 1946
- Civil War begins in Greece. Markos Vafiadis leads the insurgents. The uprising is known as DSE (Dimokratikou Stratou Elladas), Democratic Forces of Greece.
- Fall 1947
- Partisans gather minor children and send them north to the socialist countries for safety. This is known by the Macedonian name as “Detsa Begaltsi”, and by the Greek name as “Pedomasima”.
- December 1947
- Markos Vafiadis forms the Provisional Democratic Government. He revives the Macedonian Slav Movement, SNOF, only now known as NOF,(Naroden Osfoboditelen Front).
- January 1949
- Markos Vafiadis is relieved of his command and expelled from the Greek Communist party. Secretary General Nikos Zachariadis of the Greek Communist party takes control.
- July 1949
- Tito closes the Yugoslav-Greek border and ceases to support the Greek Guerrillas (Andartes) in retaliation for the Russian Communist Party’s support of Zachariadis.
