ARMS: “W” Position, Leader with hanky in right hand, twirling as desired.

MUSIC: Elo Kalkoff on Elinden records (Malo), Kosta Apostoloff on Makedonia records (Malio), (The Bill Skimos Orchestra also plays this song).

TRANSLATION: I do not know the meaning of the name “Malyo” other than the dance with the name Malyo.

BACKGROUND: This dance may be said to be every mothers and grandmothers favorite dance because of its elegance and simplicity. Spelling varies but I have used the transliteration as closely as I can.

Description

  1. 7 Steps FWD – Facing somewhat to right, starting with right foot, take 7 steps forward in line of direction (LOD)
  2. 4 IN PLACE – (Facing center) step Left fwd, touch right foot next to left
    Step right foot bkwd, touch left foot next to right
    Step left foot fwd, touch right foot next to left
    Step right foot bkwd, touch left foot next to right
  3. 5 Steps BKWD – Facing in reverse LOD, starting with left foot, take 5 steps backward in RLOD
  4. 4 IN PLACE – Same as B but with opposite foot work
